Civil Rights in Germany

Germany strongly protects civil rights through its constitution, the Basic Law (Grundgesetz). Civil rights are considered fundamental and binding on all state authorities.

1. Human Dignity

2. Equality Before the Law

  • All people are equal before the law.

8. Fair Trial and Rule of Law

  • Independent courts protect legal rights.
  • No punishment without law.

Protection Mechanisms

  • Federal Constitutional Court can strike down laws violating rights.
  • Rights cannot easily be removed by the government.
